Meetups

Here, you'll find information about in-person meetups designed specifically for laryngectomees, their partners, family, and friends. Join us to connect, share experiences, and find support within our community. You will also find a list of local laryngectomy groups run outside of Life After Lary.

A place to connect

Our meetups offer a unique opportunity to interact with other laryngectomees, sharing your journey and gaining valuable advice. We understand that living with a laryngectomy can sometimes feel isolating, but in these gatherings, you'll find a supportive community of individuals who truly understand what you're going through.

These meet-ups are specifically tailored for individuals who have undergone a laryngectomy, offering a space where you can connect with others who truly 'get it.' In a room full of people who understand the challenges and triumphs of living with a laryngectomy, you'll find a sense of belonging and support that's hard to find elsewhere.

How to join

Joining our meetups is simple! Keep an eye on this page for upcoming posters and information about our events. Each poster will include a contact number for further inquiries. Feel free to attend any meetup in your area that interests you. We look forward to welcoming you!

Host your own

If you feel you could help host a meetup in your area please contact us. We will be happy to support this in any way we can.

Speakeasy is a small group of people in Cornwall all of whom have had a laryngectomy. We have a very small committee (see above) and we all meet several times a year to socialise and to share experience and advice on dealing with our special problems. We also arrange to meet representatives of the companies supplying our necessities, ATOS Supplies and Severn Healthcare who tell us about their products and latest improvements.

Where: We meet at various central locations:

1. The Cookhouse and Pub, Penhale round, Fraddon, just off the A30.

2. The Cove, Treliske Hospital, Truro. The Cove is a special building provided for cancer survivors and there is a cafe and of course a meeting room that we can book.

3. The Lanhydrock Hotel, near Bodmin, where we also invite members of the Plymouth group.

We also have trips out together and in recent years we have visited the Penlee Lifeboat, had a ride on the Helston Steam railway, had a guided tour around the Goonhilly Earth Satellite Station on the Lizard and most recently we took a cruise from Plymouth Mayflower steps, up the river Tamar to Calstock and back.

We welcome new members so please contact for more information and join us in our activities.
